ASK WALTER:

What’s the difference between salt-based and salt-free systems?

SALT-BASED

Best for soft water.

Swaps calcium and magnesium for sodium – water comes out genuinely soft.
The slick feel, soap that lathers, glasses with no spots.
Stops scale on your water heater, fixtures, and pipes.

Keep in mind:
Needs salt refills and a drain line. Adds a little sodium.

SALT-FREE

Best for scale control.

Crystallizes the hardness so it slides through instead of sticking.
No salt, no sodium, no drain, no electricity. Runs quietly.
Cuts new scale buildup on your pipes and water heater.

Keep in mind:
Won’t make water feel slick or stop spotting the way salt does.
